Types of NAP Aerospace Anodizing

Sulfuric Acid Type II, Class I – Sodium Dichromate Seal

Our Type II anodizing with sodium dichromate seal produces a dense, corrosion-resistant oxide layer for aerospace and military aluminum components. This process is commonly specified for aircraft structures and mission-critical hardware requiring enhanced durability and environmental protection.

Features & Benefits

  • High-Performance Corrosion Resistance: Optimizes oxide layers for demanding aerospace and defense environments

  • Enhanced Structural Integrity: Strengthened aluminum surfaces for long-term aircraft reliability

  • Compliance Ready: Meets MIL-PRF-8625 and applicable OEM aerospace specifications

Sulfuric Acid Type II, Class I – Nickel Acetate Seal

Our aerospace Type II anodizing process with nickel acetate seal enhances corrosion protection while improving paint adhesion for aerospace coatings and primers. This process is widely used for aerospace finishing applications requiring both protective performance and surface uniformity prior to painting.

Features & Benefits

  • Advanced Corrosion Protection: Enhances resistance for aerospace applications

  • Smooth, Consistent Finish: Uniform anodized surface suitable for aerospace-grade painting

  • Improved Paint Adhesion: Provides an ideal surface for primers, sealants, and topcoats

AMS2471 Aerospace Anodizing

We provide AMS2471-compliant aerospace anodizing as part of our Nadcap AC7004-certified finishing capabilities. This specification governs sulfuric acid anodizing for aluminum alloys used in aerospace applications requiring controlled oxide thickness, wear resistance, and corrosion protection.

Features & Benefits

  • Exceptional Corrosion Resistance: Protects aerospace hardware against oxidation

  • Improved Paint Adhesion: Creates optimized surfaces for aerospace painting and coating systems

  • Consistent Quality: Fully documented process control to ensure quality and Nadcap audit compliance

MIL-PRF-8625 Type II Anodizing (Aerospace & Defense)

Our MIL-PRF-8625 Type II anodizing services meet U.S. military and aerospace requirements for corrosion resistance and surface durability. As part of our Nadcap AC7004-compliant aerospace finishing program, we support aircraft manufacturers, defense contractors, and aerospace suppliers requiring certified anodizing and coating services.

Features & Benefits

  • Military-Grade Corrosion Protection: Provides durable coatings for harsh environmental conditions

  • Controlled Coating Thickness: Maintains precise oxide layer thickness to ensure consistent performance

  • OEM Compliance: Supports aerospace OEM and defense contractor requirements with full documentation

Now Offering Expanded Anodizing Capabilities

NAP has expanded our services to meet the evolving needs of aerospace, military, and industrial applications:

  • TY IIB Anodizing – Provides the same seal options as TY II but with a thinner coating. Designed as a replacement for type 1C anodizing, it offers improved corrosion resistance with reduced thickness.
  • Class 2 Anodizing – Available for both TY II and TY IIB with Seal C. While “Class 1” refers to clear color anodizing, “Class 2” indicates a dyed finish. We currently offer red and black as our only color options.

General Aerospace Anodizing Process (Nadcap AC7004 Compliant)

Our aerospace anodizing process is performed under a Nadcap AC7004-compliant aerospace quality system, delivering Type II and Type IIB sulfuric acid anodizing in accordance with AMS2471, MIL-PRF-8625, and other aerospace OEM specifications. We begin with controlled surface preparation, including precision cleaning and degreasing, and process parts through a 16-tank anodizing system with DI water rinses. This certified anodizing workflow supports corrosion resistance, controlled oxide layer thickness, and optimized surface adhesion for aerospace coatings on components up to 120 inches in length.

Fully documented and traceable, NAP’s aerospace anodizing services are engineered for mission-critical aluminum hardware and are suitable for aerospace manufacturers, defense contractors, and Tier-1 suppliers pursuing audit-ready surface finishing compliance. With rigorous quality control and adherence to strict industry standards, we ensure finishes that meet or exceed the requirements of most aerospace OEMs.
